Vermont Reads in Randolph - 2008

A Restless Spirit: The Story of Robert Frost

Vermont Reads, sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council, is a Statewide, One-Book Community Reading Program., which brings communities and people of all ages together to read a book and do activities centered around it. This year, Randolph is participating in the Vermont Reads program.

This year’s Vermont Reads book is A Restless Spirit: The Story of Robert Frost, by award-winning biographer Natalie Bober. Explore the power of a richly told life story, the magic of poetry, and a New England world of yesteryear. First published in 1981, this young-adult biography of one of America’s most celebrated poets retains all the charm and substance that only a classic can.

A Restless Spirit offers possibilities for rich discussion and extension activities. Poetry, biography, Frost’s life in Vermont, farming, the importance of place and setting to the writer’s life, the natural world, traditional and non-traditional education, including home-schooling, family dynamics, and following one’s dreams are just some of the subjects that can be explored in Frost’s work.

Chandler Center for the Arts, Cover to Cover Bookstore, Kimball Public Library and area schools are among the participants in the Vermont Reads program.

The following events have been planned for this fall in Randolph.
